About Catalunya

Motorcycle Track Day at Circuit de Catalunya

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, inaugurated in 1991 in Montmeló for the 1992 Olympic Games, is one of the most emblematic tracks in global motorcycle racing. Every year, it hosts the Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix and Formula 1. Pedro Acosta set the MotoGP lap record there in 1:39.664 in 2024. Beyond competitions, the circuit regularly opens its doors to enthusiasts during motorcycle track days, offering the opportunity to ride at Circuit de Catalunya on the same asphalt as the champions.

Track Characteristics

The circuit extends over 4.73 km with 16 turns (6 left, 10 right) in a clockwise direction. The asphalt track is 12 m wide with a 30 m elevation change. The main straight of 1,047 m allows for considerable speeds before braking for the Elf corner.

The track was modified in 2021 with the reprofiling of the La Caixa corner to improve motorcycle safety, along with a partial resurfacing. The RACC chicane, added in 2007, is an integral part of the current track.

Key Corners

  • Elf (T1): 90° right turn, intense braking zone after the straight
  • Repsol (T5): 180° right hairpin, exit speed conditions the middle sector
  • Seat (T7): 150° left turn, a classic trap for beginners who over-brake
  • Campsa (T9): fast 70° right turn, one of the most engaging on the track
  • La Caixa (T14-15): left-hand curve reprofiled in 2021, exit speed is crucial for the main straight
  • New Holland (T16): last fast turn before the finish line

Riding Tips

Sector 2 (turns 10 to 13) is the most technical with changes in altitude that require precise throttle control. Work on fluidity in this section rather than raw speed. Pay attention to the Catalan heat, which quickly degrades tires: test their grip from the first laps. Braking for Seat (T7) is the classic trap — prioritize a controlled entry rather than late braking.

Access and Practical Information

The circuit is located 30 km north of Barcelona, easily accessible from the AP-7 highway. The infrastructure is world-class with equipped pits, a spacious paddock, and a permanent medical center. Track day booking prices generally range between 560 € and 900 € depending on the organizer.
