The Clastres Circuit: A Technical Track in the Aisne

The Clastres circuit, located in the Aisne region, 1.5 hours from Paris, is a technical and safe track built on a former military airfield. Opened on June 15, 2008, and expanded in 2014, it offers several configurations from 1.97 to 2.7 km, approved by FFM and FFSA. With its 1,650-meter straight, varied turns, and excellent grip, the Clastres circuit has become a popular destination for motorcycle track day in northern France.

History of the Clastres Circuit

The Clastres circuit was created on June 15, 2008, on part of a former military airfield of over 200 hectares. The initial track measured 1,973 meters. In 2014, two extensions were added: a 2,480 m track and a 2,700 m track, offering more variety to riders. Since 2017, the circuit has been owned by the Saint-Quentin conurbation community. The site, called Pôle Mécanique de la Clef des Champs, also offers a karting track and driving courses in prestige cars.

Track and Technical Characteristics

The main track of the Clastres circuit measures 1.97 km with 11 varied turns: tight hairpins, fast inverted curves, left-right chicanes, and a hairpin turn. The track, 8 meters wide, is asphalt with excellent grip. The circuit is flat (no elevation change) and the noise limit is 95 dB. The 1,650-meter straight (10 m wide) allows for good acceleration.

The longer configurations (2,480 m and 2,700 m) add additional turns and increase the technical variety of the track. Gravel traps positioned according to FFM/FFSA standards and wide obstacle-free run-off areas ensure optimal safety.

Riding Tips: The circuit is physical and requires a shortened gear ratio (e.g., -1/+2 on 600cc). Pay attention to the right hairpin at the entrance and the braking before the left square. The hairpin turn before the long straight is tricky: arriving too fast leads to running off the track. The yellow speed bumps punish overly wide trajectories.

The circuit is located at Clef des Champs, 02440 Clastres, in the Aisne region. Access: 1.5 hours from Paris, 1 hour from Lille, Reims, or Amiens. The paddock is paved (no mud), with on-site catering and reception rooms for 15 to 250 people.
