About Croix-en-Ternois

The Croix-en-Ternois circuit: the only approved circuit north of Paris

The circuit de Croix-en-Ternois, located in the Pas-de-Calais, is the only circuit north of Paris approved by FFSA and FFM. Inaugurated on May 16, 1973, this 1.9 km track is a hotspot for motorcycle track day events and riding courses in the Hauts-de-France region. Its "automobile stadium" concept with total visibility allows spectators to follow the entire track from the restaurant terrace, creating a unique and friendly atmosphere.

History of the Croix-en-Ternois circuit

The circuit was born in 1971 from the initiative of enthusiasts, including Jean-Pierre Mourot and Georges Taquet, the first owner from 1973 to 1999. The inauguration took place on May 16, 1973, with Gérard Larrousse driving a Lola, during a star race bringing together the best French drivers. The circuit quickly became the first French circuit to join the European Formula 3 Championship between 1973 and 1977.

In 1980, the A.S.A. affiliated with FFSA was created for official car races, followed in 2001 by the A.S.M. affiliated with FFM for motorcycle races. In July 1999, Patrick d'Aubreby, a former F3 driver, became the owner and launched major works: widening of turns 1, 3, 5 and 6 (from 9 to 15 m), adding pit boxes and gravel traps. In 1996, the Griffith's team set up a Formula 3 school there with Renault and Ford. The circuit celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023 with an old motorcycle championship and the Motors Cup Festival.

Track and technical characteristics

The circuit de Croix-en-Ternois offers a track with an asphalt surface of 1.9 km with 6 turns of various radii. The width varies from 9 to 15 meters depending on the turns, with widenings favoring overtaking. The track includes hairpin bends, an S-turn passing under a bridge, and a blind turn. Average speeds remain moderate, making it an excellent training ground. Wide grassy run-off areas (8 to 50 m) and gravel traps ensure optimal safety.

Riding tips: Take advantage of the generous run-off areas to gain confidence. The 6 turns, all different, put your braking skills to the test. The hairpin bends require good control of braking and cornering support. The S-turn under the bridge should be approached with caution during your first sessions. The long downhill straight allows you to work on speed before hard braking.

Access and practical information

The circuit is located at RN 39, 62130 Croix-en-Ternois, in the Pas-de-Calais, near Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise. Access by A1 or A26 then RN39. The paddocks offer a generous space of 2,500 to 3,500 m², and the restaurant can accommodate a hundred people with a panoramic terrace overlooking the entire track.

Why ride at Croix-en-Ternois?

The circuit de Croix-en-Ternois is the ideal choice for motorcyclists from northern France and Belgium. Its technical but accessible track, with 6 varied turns and optimal safety, is perfect for beginners and experienced riders alike. The friendly atmosphere, the total visibility from the stands, and the rich history of the circuit — the first French circuit in the European F3 Championship — make it an unmissable destination for motorcycle track day events in the Hauts-de-France region.
