About Dijon Prenois

Motorcycle Track Day at the Dijon-Prenois Circuit

The Dijon-Prenois circuit, located in Côte-d'Or, 15 km from Dijon, is one of the most technical and spectacular circuits in France for motorcycle track day riding. Inaugurated in 1972 and brought to its current length of 3.801 km in 1975, it is famous for its impressive elevation changes, its Parabolique with a 14% slope, and its Formula 1 history. With an exceptionally wide track of 18 meters and more than 40 track day events per year, Dijon-Prenois offers a demanding playground for motorcyclists of all levels.

History of the Dijon-Prenois Circuit

Work began in 1969 in Prenois, on the Burgundy hills north of Dijon. The circuit opened in 1972 with an initial layout of 3.289 km. In 1975, it was extended to 3.801 km with the creation of the Parabolique to accommodate Formula 1.

The French F1 Grand Prix was held there from 1974 to 1984. It was here in 1979 that the legendary duel between René Arnoux and Gilles Villeneuve took place — one of the most beautiful battles in F1 history. The circuit also hosts national and international motorcycle competitions, including the Ultimate Cup Moto and the Historic Tour.

Track Layout and Characteristics of the Dijon-Prenois Circuit

The Dijon-Prenois circuit extends over 3.801 km in a clockwise direction, with 9 turns and a 1.2 km straight. The track is 18 meters wide — one of the widest in France — offering considerable room for maneuver.

The emblematic sections of the track:

  • Parabolique: the circuit's signature turn. A dizzying descent with a 14% slope that radically alters the behavior of the motorcycle. It is the most technical and spectacular point of the track.
  • Courbe de Pouas: a fast turn that requires confidence and commitment.
  • S de Sabiné: a sequence of curves where fluidity is essential.
  • Chicane Bretelle: a technical section at the exit of the straight, a point of heavy braking.
  • Straight (1.2 km): the fastest section, with speeds reaching 280 km/h on motorcycles. It leads to a demanding braking zone.

Riding Tips at Dijon-Prenois

Dijon-Prenois is a circuit that rewards the technical and progressive rider:

  • Parabolique: the 14% slope lightens the front of the motorcycle under braking. Brake earlier than usual and be progressive on the lever. Over the laps, you will gain confidence and push back your braking point.
  • S de Sabiné: do not over-brake between the turns. Let the motorcycle roll and work the weight transfer through your body.
  • Chicane Bretelle: heavy braking from the straight. A late apex at the first turn allows for a better exit towards acceleration.
  • Camber and elevation changes: the circuit constantly plays with the terrain. Pay attention to changes in slope that alter weight transfer and grip.

Access and Practical Information

The Dijon-Prenois circuit is located in Prenois (21370), 15 km north of Dijon in Côte-d'Or.

  • By car: A38 motorway (Paris-Dijon), Prenois exit. Paris is 3 hours away, Lyon is 2 hours away.
  • By train: Dijon TGV station, 1h40 from Paris. The circuit is a 20-minute drive from the station.

The sound limit is 100 dB. The circuit hosts renowned riding schools such as BMC Moto (present since 1998).

Why Ride at the Dijon-Prenois Circuit?

Dijon-Prenois is the ideal circuit for riders who want to face a technical and hilly track. Its Parabolique with a 14% slope is a unique challenge in France, its 18-meter-wide track offers exceptional safety, and its history linked to F1 and the Arnoux-Villeneuve duel gives it a special atmosphere. It is one of the most complete and formative circuits for motorcycle track day riding in France. Book your track day now!
