About Jarama
Motorcycle Track Day at Circuito del Jarama
The Circuito de Madrid Jarama - RACE (renamed in 2022), inaugurated on July 2, 1967, is a historic circuit designed by John Hugenholtz, the Dutch architect also responsible for Zandvoort and Suzuka. The circuit hosted the Spanish F1 Grand Prix 9 times (1968-1981, Gilles Villeneuve's last victory) and the Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix 15 times (1969-1988). It was completely resurfaced in August 2018.
Track Characteristics
The circuit is 3.85 km long with 14 turns in a clockwise direction. The track is 12 m wide with an elevation change of 30 m. The track was lengthened in 1990-1991 with a new first turn, an extended straight, and a new uphill section from Ascari to Portago. The last turn was renamed Curva María de Villota in 2015.
Riding Tips
The Jarama is a narrow and technical circuit that rewards precision rather than power. Tight turns dominate the track, with fast transitions that require good weight management and clean direction changes. The uphill section from Ascari to Portago, added in 1991, offers smooth uphill curves where grip is good. The asphalt resurfaced in 2018 offers consistent grip. Access and Practical Information
The circuit is located in San Sebastián de los Reyes, 28 km north of Madrid. It is easily accessible from Madrid-Barajas Airport (20 minutes). The circuit houses the Fundación RACE museum. Consider a motorcycle track day to ride at Circuito del Jarama.
