About Linas-Montlhéry

The Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry: the 6.5 km road track

The 6.5 km configuration of the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry refers to the road track combining the speed ring (2.548 km) and the outer road circuit. Inaugurated on October 11, 1924 by industrialist Alexandre Lamblin on the Saint-Eutrope plateau (Essonne), the speed ring was the first banked oval in France, designed by engineer Raymond Jamin. More than 1,800 speed records have been set there. The outer road track was added in 1925 to host the Grand Prix de l'ACF, and then used for the Bol d'Or, the 1,000 km de Paris and the Coupes du Salon. The site is classified as 20th century heritage.

Track and characteristics of the 6.5 km road track

The complete 6.5 km configuration combines the oval speed ring (2.548 km, parabolic concrete turns, 180 m straights) with the winding outer road circuit. The ring is designed for 1,000 kg cars reaching 220 km/h at the top of the banked turns. The whole has a difference in altitude of 51 meters. The ring's surface is made of original concrete, while the road section is asphalt. Managed by UTAC since 1946, the site has more than 50 km of tracks in total.

Can you ride at the Autodrome de Montlhéry?

The speed ring is mainly used for development, homologation and endurance testing by car manufacturers. Gatherings of vintage cars are regularly organized there, as well as the Coupes du Salon and the GP de l'Âge d'Or (last edition in 2001). Free riding access is limited - consult UTAC for occasional events open to the public.

Difference with the 2.5 km configuration

The 2.5 km configuration (road track alone, without the complete ring) is the most used track for track days and current riding events. It is more winding, more technical and better suited to motorcycles and touring cars. The 6.5 km configuration including the banked ring is reserved for special events and manufacturer tests.
