About Lurcy Levis
The Lurcy-Lévis Circuit: Europe's Longest Straight
The Lurcy-Lévis circuit, located in the Allier region, is a unique track in Europe thanks to its 1,500-meter-long and 18-meter-wide straight, built on the former runway of the Lurcy-Lévis airfield. Created in 1989, this modular 2.6 km circuit is used by Formula 1 teams (Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes) and equipment manufacturers like Michelin for aerodynamic and top speed tests. It offers a safe environment for motorcycle track day with vast run-off areas in the fields.
History of the Lurcy-Lévis Circuit
The site's history began in 1931 with an airshow at the Lurcy-Lévis airfield. In 1981, Roger Chaumat and Gilles Prenchère searched for land to develop the site. The aero club was created in 1984, with the first landing in 1985. The car circuit was created in 1989 around the runway, exploiting its exceptional length and width for professional testing. Recently resurfaced, the circuit now offers a surface with optimal grip.
Track Layout and Technical Characteristics
The Lurcy-Lévis circuit offers several modular configurations: school circuit (1.1-1.3 km), west circuit (1.3 km), grand circuit (2.6 km) and very grand circuit (4.2 km). The track is 18 meters wide on the main straight and 9 to 18 m depending on the area. The elevation change is 10 meters and the sound limit is 95 dB. The circuit can run in both directions.
The layout includes the long straight with parabolic curves at the ends, connected by articulated loops with fast curves, hairpins and varied sequences. The run-off areas in the fields offer maximum safety, without rails or obstacles.
Riding tips: Take advantage of the long straight to warm up your tires before the large parabolic curve (turn 1) with progressive support. The S-turns 2-3 and hairpin 5-6 require good management of transitions. The long curves test the stability of your motorcycle. The layout may seem unusual at first, take the time to memorize it.
Access and Practical Information
The circuit is located at Route du Circuit, 03320 Lurcy-Lévis, in the Allier region. Access via A71 (Bourges exit) or A77 (Saint-Pierre-le-Moutier exit). The 5,000 m² paddock has electrical outlets, boxes and a barnum for briefings. Contact: 04 70 67 82 29.
