Le circuit du Mas du Clos: the Ferrari legend in the heart of the Creuse

The circuit du Mas du Clos is one of the most legendary circuits in France. Created in 1963 by Pierre Bardinon, industrialist and legendary Ferrari collector, the first 400-meter track winds through the park of his castle in Saint-Avit-de-Tardes (Creuse). The definitive 3.065 km track was completed in 1967, hosting Ferrari, Bugatti, Bentley and Porsche clubs, as well as illustrious drivers: Jacques Laffite, Henri Pescarolo, Jim Clark. The circuit closed around 2010 after the death of Pierre Bardinon, then reopened on March 4, 2023 under the impetus of Alexandre Bardinon, grandson of the founder, after major renovation work including a new technical loop.

Track and characteristics of the circuit du Mas du Clos

The track of Mas du Clos extends over 3.07 km with 11 turns: large curves, double turns, right-left sequences, banked turns. The track is 9 to 14 meters wide depending on the sections. The highlight of the track is its 610-meter straight line allowing to reach 300 km/h by car. The circuit is located at 690 meters altitude with a pronounced difference in height and a hilly profile that particularly challenges the driver. The lap record is held by a Ferrari 643 in 1'09"5 (161 km/h average). Four track configurations are possible. Sound limit: 95 dB.

Driving tips at Mas du Clos

Mas du Clos is a «non-aseptic» circuit — the hilly track and the marked difference in height require constant attention. The first curve has a 17-degree inclination that is surprising on the first pass. The 610-meter straight line invites you to accelerate hard, but braking at the end of the straight line is slightly uphill — adjust your braking point accordingly. The magnificent natural setting (forests, hills of the Massif Central) can be distracting — stay focused on your visual cues.

The circuit is located at Les Puids, 23200 Saint-Avit-de-Tardes, 15 minutes from Aubusson. Access by the A89 motorway (exit 26), about 1 hour from Clermont-Ferrand, 3 hours from Lyon and 4 hours from Paris.
