Motorcycle Track Day at Oulton Park Circuit
Oulton Park, located in the Cheshire countryside in the United Kingdom, is a legendary circuit that has attracted motorcycle track day enthusiasts since 1953. Built on the former Oulton Hall estate and a former RAF airfield, the circuit has evolved while retaining its demanding character. Its extensions such as Cascades, Island Hairpin and Knickerbrook, added from 1954, have contributed to its reputation as a technical and stimulating track. The atmosphere is friendly, marked by the excitement of British Superbike events and the proximity of charming villages. Oulton Park is renowned for its technical challenge and picturesque setting.
Oulton Park Track Characteristics
The Oulton Park circuit, in its International configuration, extends over 4.31 km. Its layout consists of a succession of 17 turns (6 left, 11 right) that test the skills of the riders. The surface is entirely asphalt. The theoretical maximum speed is around 160 km/h. The circuit features significant elevation changes, blind crests and tight turns that require great riding precision.
Riding Tips at Oulton Park
Here are some tips for taming the difficulties of Oulton Park:
- Britten’s: Approach this turn with a late apex on the first left, then flip quickly for the right avoiding the kerb so you don't touch the engine casing.
- Hizzy’s: Stay in 2nd at 80 km/h after the rev limiter on the descent. Align the first right cautiously because it bites.
- Knickerbrook: Hold 3rd at 145 km/h, pick it up early to accelerate up to 160 km/h in 5th towards Clay Hill.
- Druids: Brake hard in 3rd at 100 km/h with a diagonal trajectory.
- Attack the straight after Knickerbrook and the climb of Clay Hill.
