About Varano
Motorcycle Track Day at Varano de' Melegari
The Autodromo Riccardo Paletti in Varano de' Melegari (Parma), opened in 1972, is a historic circuit in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. Renamed in 1983 in honor of Riccardo Paletti, an F1 driver who died during the 1982 Canadian GP, the circuit is a prestigious training ground where Kimi Räikkönen and Nico Rosberg took their first steps. Giampaolo Dallara, the famous constructor, is one of the founders of the circuit.
Track Characteristics
The circuit is 2.38 km long with 11 turns in an anti-clockwise direction. The track is 11 m wide with a slight elevation change of 7 m. The track has evolved since the 0.55 km oval of 1969: extended to 1.8 km in 1972, extended to 2.38 km in 2002 with the addition of a parabola, Jacky Ickx chicane in 1997, modification of the hairpin in 2011. The sound limit is 98 dB.
Riding Tips
Varano is a technical circuit with its hairpin turns, S-chicanes and parabola. The Jacky Ickx turn is the most technical passage. The compact layout rewards consistency and precision of trajectories. It is an excellent learning circuit thanks to its International Center for Safe Driving (since 1991). Consider booking a track day booking to ride at Varano.
