About Vigeant
The Val de Vienne circuit: a complete track in the heart of Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The circuit du Val de Vienne, located in Vigeant in the Vienne department, is one of the most complete tracks in France. With its 3.7 km, 14 turns and a straight allowing speeds of up to 270 km/h, it offers a technical challenge suitable for all levels. Inaugurated in 1990 by René Monory, former president of the Senate, and modernized in 2008, this FIA Grade 2 approved circuit hosts major events such as the Championnat de France Superbike and the 500 Ferrari contre le cancer.
History of the circuit du Val de Vienne
The circuit Val de Vienne was born in 1990 from an initiative of enthusiasts and local authorities, under the impetus of René Monory, then president of the Senate and figure of the Pays Montmorillonnais. The first competition was held in 1992 with the Championnat de France Supertourisme, followed quickly by the FSBK (Championnat de France Superbike). Since 1995, the circuit has hosted the 500 Ferrari contre le cancer (Sport et Collection) every year, a charitable event that has become emblematic.
In 2008, a major renovation connected two straights to create a continuous acceleration of nearly 1,000 m, allowing speeds of 270 km/h. The circuit then obtained FIA Grade 2 approval. In 2012, management passed to SAS Les Deux Arbres with modernization of the pit boxes, paddocks and control tower. In 2010, the circuit attracted 170,000 visitors.
Track and technical characteristics
The track of the circuit extends over 3.7 km with 14 named turns: Le Trop Tard (demanding hairpin), Le Trop Vite, Le Buisson, a double right at 90°, a tight left, a wide S and the left of the farm. The track, 11 meters wide, allows for safe overtaking. The configuration can vary: competition track (13-14 turns) or school track (11 turns).
Riding tips: The circuit Val de Vienne is demanding in terms of braking on the angle, which is frequent on this track. Work on the trajectories in the technical sections, especially Le Trop Tard (a hairpin that lives up to its name). Exploit the long straight for overtaking, but anticipate braking. In the fast sequences, the accuracy of the trajectories takes precedence over pure speed.
Access and practical information
The circuit is located in Vigeant (86150), in the Vienne department, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Owned by the Communauté de Communes Vienne et Gartempe, it has well-equipped pit boxes and modernized paddocks. The sound limit is set at 102 dB for motorcycles.
Why ride at Val de Vienne?
The circuit du Val de Vienne is an excellent choice for motorcycle track day thanks to its complete and varied track. The long straight allows you to work on speed, the 14 named turns offer a rare technical diversity, and the atmosphere of the track days is known to be friendly. With more than 40 track days scheduled per year and various organizers, it is one of the most active circuits in France for the practice of motorcycle track day. Consider a track day booking to ride at Val de Vienne.
