Motorcycle Track Day at Zandvoort Circuit
The Zandvoort circuit, located in the Netherlands, is a mecca of motorsport with a rich history. Inaugurated on August 7, 1948, this track combines permanent sections and public roads through the dunes. After hosting the Dutch F1 Grand Prix from 1952 to 1985, it was completely renovated for its return in 2021. Today, Zandvoort is popular for motorcycle track days and other motorsport events such as the GT Masters and DTM. Its exhilarating reputation, its old school challenge between dunes and the North Sea, and its passionate audience make it an essential destination for riders. The atmosphere is unique, especially during major events where orange dominates.
Zandvoort Track Characteristics
The Zandvoort circuit offers a significant technical challenge. With a length of 4.32 km, the asphalt track winds through the dunes. The width of the track is 10 meters. The track is known for its two steep banking turns (19° and 18°), the Tarzanbocht (a 180° turn with late braking), and the Scheivlak, a blind downhill turn at over 250 km/h. The constant elevation changes add a roller coaster aspect to the experience.
Riding Tips: For the Tarzanbocht, brake late but precisely. In the bankings, go high if you are confident, but avoid excessive curb use. Approach Scheivlak with caution, prioritizing the ideal line. Attack the 8-9 chicanes at high speed by balancing on the curbs, and prepare the long turn 10 to the left for smooth re-acceleration.
